Barriers to Housing & Services

Deprivation in terms of Barriers to Housing & Services is very widespread in North Yorkshire. 110 out of the 373 Lower Super Output Areas (LSOAs) in the county fall within the most deprived 20% in England for this domain, largely in the rural areas. This domain focuses on access to housing and the availability of key services in the local area.

 

The domain is composed of two sub-domains - Geographical Barriers to services which is calculated using road distances to a GP surgery, supermarket or convenience store, primary school and post office; and Wider Barriers to housing which is produced using data on household overcrowding, housing affordability and homelessness.

More than 40% of North Yorkshire LSOAs fall within the lowest national quintile in terms of the Geographical Barriers sub-domain (110 LSOAs in total). The LSOA which covers the Dales ward in Ryedale is the most deprived in England for Geographical Barriers to Services

 

North Yorkshire has 8 LSOAs fall within the lowest national quintile in terms of the Wider Barriers sub-domain.
