Income Deprivation

In the Income domain of the Indices of Deprivation 2015 North Yorkshire has 23 Lower Super Output Areas (LSOAs) in the most deprived quintile in England. These largely reflect the LSOAs which are the most deprived in the overall Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) but also include part of Stokesley, in the North Road area of the town.

The Income domain is produced using data on adults and children in Income Support families; income-based Jobseeker's Allowance families; income-based Employment and Support Allowance families; Pension Credit (Guarantee) families; Child Tax Credit; and Working Tax Credit Income Support families not already counted; and asylum seekers in England in receipt of subsistence support, accommodation support or both.

The Income Deprivation Affecting Children Index (IDACI) is an additional indicator of the Indices of Deprivation. It highlights the four LSOAs covering Selby town centre and the area to the west of the River Ouse in Selby as being particularly deprived.

The IDACI is derived from data on children aged 0-15 living in Income Support families; Jobseeker’s Allowance families; Pension Credit (Guarantee) families; Child Tax Credit; and Working Tax Credit Income Support families not already counted.

A further indicator, the Income Deprivation Affecting Older People Index (IDAOPI) shows the Allenby Road area of Hipswell as being particularly deprived.

The IDAOPI is derived from data on adults aged 60 or over living in Income Support families; income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance families; and Pension Credit (Guarantee) families.
